Jet Lag Shitty

19 Oct

I’m sitting on my couch, feeling like flu warmed over, and wondering when I’ll emerge from the fog. We returned from New England a week ago today and I still have the motivation of a deadbeat on pot. I barely got through my sleep-deprived week at home and work when a stomach bug hit me and now I have spent an entire day home from work on my couch, watching very lame girly movies on HBO. Doug is whipping up the best-smelling pizza known to man and unfortunately my nose and my stomach are not talking to each other right now. I know, I know, I whine, and there is cheese to be had to go with it.

Fortunately, I live with a very sympathetic male who does the laundry and cooks for me and buys me ginger ale and saltines. I really have no complaints. Tomorrow I’m going to get my swine flu vaccination since I had a little scare that this stomach bug was it, and had a good bout of hypochondria while watching a long 60 Minutes of swine flu scariness. Meanwhile, my sister gave me a Vanity Fair subscription and I have laughed at least once while reading it on the couch. Now, to stop the whining.

Hope you feel better fast. We need our doses of laughter from you. And of course I’m concerned about you, too!

Why is it that when you have a great trip, you are rewarded with being sick when you get home? It’s not fair. I got a bad cold when we returned from our driving trip to California. Maybe it’s being exposed to a wide range of germs and being under stress, even if it’s good stress.

I’ve been thinking about get flu shots. I’ve never had one before. I see the “old” people lined up for them at pharmacies and realized that I could fit right in!

I got a flu shot two years ago because we were going to England after Christmas. No, I didn’t get the flu. But tonight I talked to one of my student’s mothers. She sounded like death warmed over. She had gotten the shot, and then the flu. I’m surrounded with 1,100 little germ factories. it’s like Russian Roulette. I use hand sanitizer every day now that a dispenser has been installed in the lunch room. But let’s get real. It’s just a matter of time. At least you’ll have it over and done with. :)
